The Gerber "Bear Grylls" survival knife kit has everything you need to give yourself a fighting chance if the unfortunate were to happen. The blade is very sharp and strong ,the handle fits your hand like a glove and has a sure grip. I could go on and on listing all the attributes but to sum it up I will trust my life with this knife.

Awesome knife

I just got this knife from Rocky national and it is awesome. This thing is very beefy and can take one hell of a beating. The flint strike works great and after just a couple of swipes with the diamond sharpener, its back to scary sharp, even after taking serious abuse. Over all, an awesome knife for a great price.

I have been a game warden for 30 yrs. I also teach fieldcraft and survival, both in the Far East and Southern Africa. I recently got one of these knives. I have large hands, but due to the handle shape, this knife feels the right size. I dont usually get knives with serrations (no choice here) however, so far, no complaints. The hammer butt is better than either LMF or Prodigy. The fire lighter is a nice addition. The knife is robust, yet not heavy - a great plus when on foot in the bush or jungle. Its a pity this knife wasnt around years ago when I started.I would recommend it to any professional outdoorsman.

i think carbon steel would be better just in case the fire steel is lost so that you could use the back of the blade for getting a spark and light a fire in an emergency
